Assignment for Friday, February 6

Good morning, ladies. I am enjoying your answers even though I haven't had much time to blog myself. Today I am home most of the day. Woo-hoo! I'll be catching up on several things and looking forward to today's answers. The assignment? Finish the lesson.

Then enjoy the weekend!

All caught up, again...Here are my answers -
9 - We may have been given incredible gifts, but without the love and concern for others to put them to use, they're totally worthless.
D.D. This were a little tough for me.
- Matt 7:11 We know how to give gifts even though we can't compare ourselves to God and his love for us, so how much better then will his gifts be for us? Sometimes the hardest part about giving someone just the right gift is not knowing them very well...God knows us better than ANYONE, he know just what we need!
- Eph. 4:8 We were each given our individual gifts, they were chosen especially for us
- Rom. 1:11 Spiritual gifts to give us strength, God wants us/will give us the strength to fight for him. He's not going to leave us without what we need if we're seeking to work for Him, show His love to everyone(1 Peter 4:10-11), sometimes even our "unwanted" gifts might be just what someone else is needing to see working in us!
1 Cor. 12:28 God has given all kinds of different gifts to people in the church, they're all necessary and we should be thankful/encourage eachother, and be encouraged when we're working together to serve God!

I've enjoyed your comments, ladies. I wanted to point something out that hasn't been brought up yet - maybe because it's so obvious. Most of these passages we have looked at this week are discussing miraculous spiritual gifts and so don't directly apply to us. However, there are PRINCIPLES taught that do directly apply to us and you have mentioned many of them in your comments: realizing our talents are from God and should be used to build up His kingdom, the importance of love as our primary motivator when we use our gifts, etc.

I also struggled a bit with the DD section, Tammy. I think you did a good job answering the questions. I curious to see what Audrey has to say.

By the way, Audrey has suffered from a rather severe migraine this week which is why we haven't heard much from her as much. She is feeling better now so I'm expecting her post today.

Wow. I should have proofread that entry before I posted it.

Done this earlier this morning but just now posting.

As each one has a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
1 Peter 4:10

I did what Debbie talked about. I looked at the DD passages and applied them to me now. So I would summarize the passages that God gives the best and perfect (just what I need) gifts, some of those gifts are the foundations to the church of the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastor teachers (I read before and after Eph 4:8), these spiritual gifts (of love, peace, joy, encouragement, wisdom, the ones we CAN still receive through the Word) can build/establish me and others around me. I did chuckle that a spiritual gift is 'administration.' Is that another word for organization! Oh, no - currently not one of my gifts (but I want to be).

I too was kind of wondering if anyone else noticed that some of her points were taken out of context, coming from several scriptures that talk specifically about miraculous gifts...but I agree with you, Debbie, about there being some good applications anyway...

and let us provoke one another in order to stir up love and good works...Heb. 10:24

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience...James 1:2-3

And as each one of you has received a gift, minister it to each other, as a good steward of the manifold grace of God...I Pet. 4:10

Done for today.

"As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God." I Peter 4:10

"And let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds." Hebrews 10:24

"Count it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance." James 1:2-3

Wow. I almost couldn't think of that last one at all.

9. Our gifts are nothing unless we love enough to put them into use.

Digging Deeper
-Matt 7:11 God gives us good gifts because we are His children and He loves us. Even the smallest gift is good because God gave it to us.

-Eph 4:8 God gave us gifts in order to equip us to build up the body, do His work, and to unify us so that we aren't easily swayed. So He gave each of us a gift to do what He needs done right where we are in our life. Even the smallest gift has an important purpose.

-Rom 1:11 Okay, I really don't know how to apply this one to my life.

-I Cor 12:28 I see God's planning in this verse and the ones that follow. The early church needed these miraculous gifts in order to be established. God knew what He was doing and gave gifts that were needed at that time. He does the same today. The gifts may be different, but they are things that are needed and He provides for those needs by giving gifts to His people.

As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another as stewards of the manifold grace of God. I Peter 4:10
