I'm finally caught up on the Daily Bible Reading...Yay! I have read through Exodus 7 and Matthew 18:14.
I will also do my Acts worksheet for tonight. TOMORROW I will tackle some Romans too, since I won't have to spend so much time on DBR. Whew...

When Peter makes his great confession that Jesus is the Christ and Jesus says that the church will be founded on that fact, why does Jesus say, "And I say that you are Peter..." Is that the first time he actually nicknames him that? When the apostles are listed several chapters back, he is listed as "Simon, who is also called Peter." Of course, we know sometimes there is information given that hasn't happened yet, for clarification, but I have always wondered exactly why Jesus says that here...we know it's not what the Catholics think...

Done with my Wed Bible Lesson (in Acts). I was also going to tackle my normal book--but I CAN'T FIND IT ANYWHERE. I am on the hunt--hoping when Abby gets home from school maybe she can tell me if she put it somewhere.
My memory work
Isaiah 55:8
"For my ways are not your ways neither are my thoughts your thoughts" declares the Lord (ugh that's all from memory)
"As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts"

Well I can't say that I really have a great answer for your question, Ann; but I did think that maybe it was kind of a rhetorical thing...Peter says, "You are the Christ" and Jesus says, "And you are Peter." Both true statements.

I read Mark 8 today. I am impressed how the idea of losing your life being the way to save it keeps popping up. For most of us this won't mean physical death but we are asked to give up our own desires and plans, sometimes, to live His desires and plans so in that way we lose our lives.

I hope you find your book, Sarah!

I'm done for today and caught up. Whew. I'm mulling over my lesson but not sure I'm ready to share any great insight yet.
