Assignment for Wednesday, January 21

Hmmm. Today's assignment is to do questions 5 and 6. The passage for question 5 actually answers question 4 but I agree we should aspire to this standard. It's interesting to think about how giving comfort isn't always done with soft, kind words.

5. We should cling to the Word (be immersed in it), so we can use it to urge, convince and encourage others with it. We should always be prepared to "back up" our encouragement with scripture, not just opinion or even experience.

6. One of the greatest obstacles to encouraging others is to NOT be doing what you know to be right. When we habitually "forsake" the assembly, or count it lightly by not making it a priority, how can we possibly be uplifting to our brethren, how can we know our brethren's needs so that we can love them and do good works for them OR urge them to love and good works? We can't.

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. James 1:2-3

And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works... just wanted to make sure I didn't lose this one learning the other one, it gets harder and harder...

Done for today. Debbie, I agree with you. I answered question #1 (Monday) with Christy, who is my sister. When I thought about what is encouraging about her, one of the first things that jumped into my mind was the idea that I know she would call me to the carpet on anything I was doing that I shouldn't. It IS comforting and encouraging to know we can trust each other enough to listen to their rebukes and/or correction.

"Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, for the testing of your faith produces endurance." James 1:2-3

hmmm. misses the "knowing" part.

"And let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds." Heb. 10:24

I've been sick this week, but I'm starting to feel better and am now all caught up for the week.

Not too shabby for my first try. I must have learned this one as a kid.
