Assignment for Monday, January 26

Yea! A new week with all kinds of new adventures in it. Are you ready? This week we are looking at encouraging growth in the people around us. Today answer Clearing the Cobwebs and question 1. Now that question 1 is a little longer than normal, but that's OK. We haven't had a challenging Monday yet. We can do it! Yea, us!!!

We'll take another week on memorizing James 1:2-3. Maybe on Friday we'll review both of our verses so far.

In reading through these verses, particularly I Timothy 6, it always strikes me how different we are from the world. People will admire a person who pursues excellence in so many physical areas -- athletes like Michael Phelps, musicians like Yoyo Ma or Itzak Pearlman, poets like Maya Angelou -- but pursuing spiritual excellence is made fun of. In the eyes of the worldly, pursuing righteousness, Godliness, faith, etc. is seen as a sign of weakmindedness.

"Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance." James 1:2-3

Good point, Jennifer. Since we don't receive encouragement from the world (and shouldn't expect it) we really rely on our spiritual family to lift us up.

Done for today. I really liked the last part of #1-we are to try to live peacefully with all men--we are not to become a person of the world, but we should not be rude to them either. I think sometimes we as Christians make such a point to be separate that we forget that we are supposed to be influencing those who are lost to do what is right.

Sorry I am late.

Paul tells us in Romans 14:19 to pursue those things that make for peace and to edify one another.

In 1 Cor 14:1, we should pursue love.

1 Thes 5:15 says we should always pursue good for ourselves and others.

The man of God, according to 1 Tim 6:11, should pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness.

According to Heb 12:14, we should pursue peace with all men so we can see God.
