Wednesday, May 1

Today's assignment is simple.  Think about the women in the Bible you have studied in the past.  Choose one example of this kind of love in one of their lives.  Share this with the group.

In considering this part of Tuesday's post:

"Christian love, whether exercised toward the brethren, or toward men generally, is not an impulse from the feelings, it does not always run with the natural inclinations, nor does it spend itself only upon those for whom some affinity is discovered. Love seeks the welfare of all, Rom. 15:2, and works no ill to any, 13:8-10; love seeks opportunity to do good to all men..."

I immediately thought of Abigail, who showed this kind of love toward her husband, Nabal (certainly no natural affinity there) and toward her household.

I've often wondered if Abigail could have simply escaped with a handful of trusted or well-loved servants and let David go ahead and kill Nabal. That would have solved her problem from a worldly mindset. Instead, she humbled herself and acted to protect her worthless husband, his household, and David himself, from doing something he should not. That shows true love for others.
