Monday again

Good morning, ladies. May is already halfway gone. The garden is calling my name...SHOUTING my name. So many distractions would call me away from listening to God speak through His word. It only takes a few minutes to read enough to keep your mind busy all day. Be sure to feed your soul.

So true Debbie--there are SO many things calling my name! I am learning to find comfort in this nightly routine of study and often feel unsettled if I don't get my lesson done before bed! I am done for today. The author (thankfully) is stressing in today's lesson that God's word is not just a historically accurate book, not just a book of amazing miracles and healing powers of old, but the way God speaks to us now! Another thing that she brought up that I thought was a GREAT idea was to "color code" my Bible. She uses different colors for different verses to make flipping through her Bible in search of a verse easier to find. She uses the following system with her particular reasoning in parenthesis.
Blue--comfort, encouragement (a soothing color)
Red--Holy Spirit (red flames, tongues of fire)
Yellow--Promises (sun brings promise of a new day)
Green--God's greatness and God's word
Gray--Satan, sin (Satan deceives us by leading us into gray areas)
Orange--Commands for Christian living (when we obey His commands, our lives will shine like the noonday sun).
I thought this was a really good idea especially for someone like me who doesn't really memorize verses well but can really visually correlate things like this.
In other news--maybe keep my friend Shelley from Portland in your prayers--her hubby leaves for Afghanistan in 3 weeks (his 3rd tour of duty) and will be gone for at least 6 months. She has always had her son home when he has been gone, but he is now at college so it is just her and the girls--and understandably she is nervous and sad to have him go again. Thanks.

Forgot to post yesterday - Read to Is 12. This morning I read Is 13-16 - reading His prophecies of the judgement on the surrounding nations of Israel.
