Assignment for October 6

I'm back on track and hope this post beats Julie. Today's lesson is a little longer as we take a few moments to look at the old self and what we are supposed to do with it.

By the way, ladies. We are over half way through this study already. Be thinking about ideas for the next one!

Lesson Six Day Two

1. It points us to Christ, who is our life. Seeing our lives as hidden in Him (inseparable from Him) should aid us in putting aside the deeds of the flesh
2. Put them to death; Lay them aside (put them aside).
3. We have all been disobedient as partakers in these kinds of sin. These things will bring about God’s anger.
4.
a. All of these sins are around us every day. They are celebrated in our society.
b. The world makes these kinds of sins glamorous. They are tied together with ideas like success and beauty.
c. If I am grasping for something I do not have in a way that consumes me, I have made that thing my god; having rejected the good things I already have and the God who gave them to me.
5.
a. These sins mostly have to do with words that come out of our mouths.
b. We see these everywhere! They are rampant in the world, but, in my opinion, nowhere will they be more demoralizing or oppressive than when they come from within our families or within the church.
c. Lies break trust. It’s almost impossible to trust a person who has lied to you repeatedly. Lies can also be devastating when they are also slander. Consider, for example, how difficult it is to prove a lie false.
6. Keeping seeking the things above; remember that we are now hidden in Christ and partakers in His glory by putting aside these things.

I agree - these sins in the church are devastating to unity and trust, something we all need to have with each other. We should all be careful to never be a part of something like that.
