Perseverance is long-term.  It is endurance through whatever comes.  It is an unending commitment to something you believe.  It is a decision.

11 Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord—that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful. James 5:11

We can learn a lot by looking at the examples God has given us in the Old Testament.  Job, of course, is famous for his perseverance.  He persevered when he lost all his worldly possessions and his children, when his wife turned against him, and when his friends let him down.  James tells us that we are to learn something from his experience: the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.  He has a good end intended for us.

Your assignment for today:
1.  Choose an example of perseverance from the Old Testament.
2.  Share a lesson we can learn about perseverance from the example you chose.

Hannah is a great example of perseverance. She had to wait for the Lord to grant her a son, which was her most fervent desire. God granted her a son and also made him into a great leader

Her example teaches me to persevere while keeping God's plan involved in all my desires. When God gives me a "yes" it will be part of his will and his plan.

David was a good example of perseverance. Let's just take his example in preparing for the building of the temple. He wanted to do that for the Lord so much, but God told him "no", that his son would build it instead. But because he loved God so much, he persevered in his desire to be a part of God's Holy House, and did as much preparation ahead of time, during his last years as he could possibly do without actually starting construction. We all know David's shortcomings, but He continued to serve God until his life ended.
