Assignment for Wednesday, June 24

What are the biggest obstacles for you in your faithfulness? I think mine is simply being distracted. So many things I'd like to do...but I sometimes forget they won't really matter much in eternity.

Week Eight, Day Three

Paul's thoughts on the voyage were that there would be a large loss of cargo and lives.

The centurion listened to the helmsman and the owner of the ship over Paul (also the majority thought it would be fine)

When the wind turned rough, they tried "going with it", taking shelter behind an island, running cables under the ship, again letting the wind drive them, and then lightening the load.

The condition of the boat was pretty beat up, and the crew and passengers were starving.

God told Paul that He would spare the lives of everyone on the ship.

Paul was certain of their future because he had faith in God.

Paul's warning was that they had to run aground on a certain island.

Paul encouraged them to eat on day 14.

There were 276 on board.

After they ate, they threw the rest of the wheat overboard.

The crew decided to do what Paul had said was going to happen - run aground on an island.

The soldiers weren't allowed to kill the prisoners, because the centurion wanted to spare Paul.

The crew's reception in Malta was one of unusual kindness.

The things that most hinder my walk with God are my own selfish desires...many times it is with a sigh that I put aside the thing I rather do to accomplish what I know God would want me to do. I still struggle to find a way to do both! The problem with that is there are so many things I could be doing for the Lord...

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness...

One thing that really hit me today was the author's comparison of Jesus calming the storm for the disciples, and God safely conducting Paul through the storm instead. That is such a powerful lesson for me...I always want the Lord to calm my storms, but many times He wants me to weather them to grow stronger (of course, some storms are of my own making!).

I'm running a day behind, so I'm done for yesterday.
